Identity categories begin as useful descriptions of patterns but become cages when they shift from “something I sometimes do” to “something I permanently am”—at which point the label that was supposed to help you understand yourself now prevents you from becoming anything else. The real trap isn’t the categories themselves but the framework loop they create: experience becomes label, label becomes belief, belief becomes identity, and identity automates thoughts that defend the cage from the inside.
